Christmas had always been a great time for Roosevelt. He was close to his family and being an only child had meant a lot of the focus had been on him. His family had always been big on charity events too so the week leading up to Christmas was super busy with all sorts of different activities.

This year was a bit different though. This year Samantha was a part of his family and his parents may have gone a bit overboard with presents for a child that hadn't even been born yet. From what he could tell Samantha wasn't scared off though and seemed genuinely touched to be included. Roosevelt's mother was delighted to have another woman around the house.

After spending the morning and lunch with his family though Roosevelt and Samantha had begged off and gone back to her place to exchange the gifts they had gotten for each other. Stripping off all the layers he had worn to fight off the cold Roosevelt collapsed on the couch in front of the tree and held his arms out to Samantha.

The instant Roosevelt saw the picture next to Samantha in the Cove he knew who it was. The guy was a little older and oddly enough this picture was a little more clear than the grainy one he'd seen online but it was the same guy. The guy that had shot and nearly killed Samantha.

The only thing he slowed down for as he left his apartment was a gun. Two guns, actually, one for him and one for Samantha. She didn't have her concealed weapons permit yet but that was going to change really, really fast.

As he headed toward her work his was practically in full-on SEAL mode, scanning the area for signs of the gunman while trying to get to her shop as quickly as possible without causing an accident. Driving down the street he spotted her running from what must have been the Quill to her shop.

Practically swerving to the side of the road Roosevelt pulled up next to her before reaching across to open the door for her.

"Get in."

1. Roosevelt is 29, is a siren, and grew up in Siren Cove. He graduated from the public high school. His senior year there the football team won the state championship with him at quarterback.

2. He's a former Navy SEAL and current fire fighter. He also volunteers with the Coast Guard, Search and Rescue, Habitat for Humanity, and local sports teams. You've probably seen him in the paper at some more or at some sort of charity event.

3. He's big into fitness. Roosevelt sometimes fills in for the yoga teacher at the community center and can often be seen running or swimming around town.

4. Roosevelt is a bit stubborn and opinionated but he's pretty friendly. He'll never hold it against you that you're wrong about something.

5. He is hetero lifemates with his bff Lincoln Miller, even though Lincoln is a huge nerd. Seriously guys, Lincoln is such a nerd. But Roosevelt loves him anyway.

6. You may recognize him from the Fire Station annual calendar.

NAME: Brad

CHARACTER NAME: Roosevelt Hawke

CHARACTER AGE: 29

SPECIES: Siren

BACKGROUND & HISTORY: Born in Siren Cove, Roosevelt is the son of the former fire chief and his wife. The oldest child, Roosevelt very much took after his father, loving competitive sports and other physical activities. Pushed hard by his father, Roosevelt was always the first one to try something daring or difficult. Always the first to jump his bike off of a ramp or climb a cliff by the ocean and jump off into the surf. He also learned a strict sense of responsibility by watching his father run the fire station. A very busy man, his father generally only had time for Roosevelt when it came to coming to watch his sporting events, which even further pushed Roosevelt to take those things very seriously.

Growing up his best friend was Lincoln Miller. Despite being an odd pair Roosevelt took a shine to the other boy. This was possibly because he saw Lincoln as a genuinely good person, possibly because they both had presidential first names, and possibly because Lincoln had a Nintendo 64 before anyone else did. Whatever the exact reason they were young and fast friends.

While a lot of their friendship revolved around mocking each other's interests (with mostly Roosevelt mocking his nerd friend) they also were always there for each other. Anyone who wanted to pick on Lincoln had to go through Roosevelt. No matter how dangerous a situation Roosevelt got them in to, Lincoln was always there alongside his friend. From the adventure in the cryptic cave to solving the mystery of the missing Yu-Gi-Oh cards, they were nearly inseparable.

In high school Roosevelt wrestled and played basketball but his standout sport was football. As a star quarterback he earned the nickname "the Rough Rider" for his tendency to run the football and trample over the defense. Instead of going to college on a football scholarship after leading his team to the state championships like many thought he would Roosevelt decided to join the Navy, attending the US Naval Academy before becoming a Navy SEAL.

After four years as a SEAL he left the military to return home and become a firefighter alongside his childhood friend Lincoln. As much as he loved serving his country Roosevelt decided that he wanted to start a family some time and life as a SEAL wasn't conducive to that. Also, it was always his father's dream that Roosevelt would follow in his footsteps and become Fire Chief and it's hard for Roosevelt to disappoint his dad.

PERSONALITY: Roosevelt is very much an Alpha Male. He likes to be the one in charge and be actively going out and doing things. He hates being idle and has more testosterone than common sense much of the time but his heart is usually in the right place. That said, he does have a bit of a temper and generally tends to solve problems with pure force more than finesse regardless of how dangerous it might be to do so.

His lifestyle is a testament to his on-the-go personality. Not only is he a fireman but he also volunteers with the Coast Guard and is a bit of a fitness nut. You're unlikely to ever find him at the library but he'll listen to a philosophy audio book while he works out. Roosevelt is intelligent but his skills lend themselves to problem solving rather than just being gifted in math or science or a skilled writer. He generally keeps his more thoughtful and sensitive side (what of it there was) concealed since it doesn't fit in with the way he wants to present himself to the world.

Being a fireman, or a hero of some sort, is very important to Roosevelt. His father was someone that people always looked up to and referred to as a hero and Roosevelt as always looked up to and emulated his father. He likes being the go-to guy for things and being in control. Whether it's as a quarterback, a SEAL, or a fireman he wants to be the guy making the decisions. His father was always most proud of him during these types of moments, often referring to him as a "chip off the old block", which only reinforced Roosevelt's desire to succeed at these things.

At times Roosevelt can have difficulty understanding people different than him. He can never understand why his friend Lincoln will sit around pretending to be a Dwarf Warrior instead of going and learning to actually fight with an axe or forge armor. Roosevelt is very much grounded in reality and the here and now. He's the type of guy that thinks it's ridiculous for someone to dress up as a comic book character but sees nothing strange about painting your body in support of your local sports team. While Lincoln has helped considerably toward helping Roosevelt accept other people Roosevelt will probably never understand them.

For all that he's a rather affable guy. People like him and know they can always count on him for help. He's very active in the community and loves Siren Cove. As a Siren he absolutely loves the water but rarely goes out in his seal form, preferring to swim on the merits of his human training.

OPINION OF THE RIVALRY: Being a magical creature Roosevelt comes down firmly in support of the Coombs, though not necessarily the crazy/violent Mrs. Coombs. Magic, just like guns or anything else, isn't dangerous when handled properly.

LIFESTYLE: Roosevelt spends a lot of the time at the fire station and the gym, although he also volunteers with the Coast Guard and Search and Rescue or Habitat For Humanity. In short, he's very active. He does have a loft apartment and it's essentially a big man cave. A nice man cave, but it's a man cave all the same.

Like any good Navy SEAL Roosevelt has a fondness for guns and has a rather impression collection locked in a safe in his loft although he is an active member of the Siren Cove Firing Range. As one of their firing instructors he often teaches gun safety courses.

Roosevelt also helps out with the high school football team when possible, doing his best to give back to the program that he enjoyed so much. He particularly enjoys running the younger teenagers into the ground with conditioning drills.
